About Calculate My Needs
We build free, fast, and genuinely useful calculators that help everyday people make confident decisions about their money, health, studies, and daily life.
Who We Are
Calculate My Needs is an independent web project created and maintained by a small, self-funded team of developers and writers based in Smithfield, North Carolina. What started as a single mortgage calculator built to answer our own questions has grown into a curated suite of more than thirty interactive tools spanning personal finance, health and fitness, academics, practical everyday math, the creator economy, and a few just-for-fun calculators. Every tool on the site is designed, coded, and documented by us — we do not republish other people's widgets or auto-generate pages.
Our Mission
Most online calculators are cluttered, slow, or hide the actual math behind a paywall. We set out to do the opposite: give people clear, visual, and trustworthy tools that explain not just the answer, but how that answer was reached. Whether you are estimating a monthly mortgage payment, comparing the debt snowball versus avalanche method, checking your BMI against World Health Organization ranges, or planning how much pizza to order for a party, our goal is the same — help you understand the numbers behind the decision.
How We Build Our Calculators
Accuracy matters to us. Each calculator is built around established, publicly documented formulas and standards rather than guesswork. A few examples of the methodology we rely on:
- Finance tools use standard amortization, compound-interest, and present-value formulas — the same math used by lenders and financial planners.
- Health tools follow recognized clinical standards, such as the World Health Organization BMI categories, the U.S. Navy body-fat tape method, and the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for estimating daily energy needs.
- Academic tools use conventional weighted GPA grade-point scales.
- Everyday utilities rely on standard unit conversions and geometric volume formulas.
Every calculation runs entirely in your browser. We do not need an account, and your inputs are never sent to a server or stored by us. When a tool relies on assumptions (for example, an estimated rate of return or a regional tax rate), we show those assumptions on the page so you can adjust them to match your own situation.
Why It's Free
Calculate My Needs is free for everyone to use. We keep the lights on through modest, clearly labeled display advertising, which lets us continue building new tools and improving existing ones without charging our visitors. We are committed to keeping the experience clean and fast — no pop-ups that block the page, no misleading download buttons, and no content designed to trick you into clicking ads.
